    Score Mobile for BlackBerry

Looking for a great smartphone application to provide live box scores and stats (perfect for fantasy football)? Look no further. TheScore.com offers such an app for free. The app is available for most BlackBerry smartphones including the Tour, and, of course, it is available for download on the iPhone.

As a sports fan, this should definitely be included on my list of must have BlackBerry apps. I also use it to stay current on college football scores.

To download this app to your smartphone, visit thescore.com from your phone’s browser. It is also available on BlackBerry App World.

UPDATE — March 11, 2010: Score Mobile has been updated to v1.3.2.6.

    Adrian Peterson NFL Fantasy Commercial

    August 13th, 2009 - No Comments » - Filled in: Sports, TV & Movie
    ETRADE Mobile pro Baby

The NFL Network always has a little fun with the “Fantasy Files” commercials as the season nears. Most feature a player’s strength with some far-fetched footage (my favorite this year is the Andre Johnson commercial). But when I saw the following Adrian Peterson plug, I “Whoa”d like the ETRADE baby. AP looks ready.

That Just Happened — Andre Smith Needs More Than A Bro

    March 12th, 2009 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: New News, Sports
Bank stocks aren't the only ones dropping.
    Dan Lopez / Associated Press—–

Andre Smith disappointed scouts and coaches yet again during his Pro Day yesterday. This is a guy I think is worthy of a #1 consideration based on his accomplishments at ‘Bama. Now, I’m second-guessing my decision. He may go much, much later now. I know it’s been reiterated over and over again. But when millions of dollars are at stake, how do you not prepare yourself as best as you possibly can. Nice goin, ‘Dre. Get yourself a bro while you’re at it. All joking aside, I think there are still teams out there that are considering him as a first round pick despite the lack of work ethic and bad choices he’s made throughout this draft process.

It should come as no surprise that the BCS has received extended agreements with the Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls through 2013. Can’t wait ’til September when they decide who goes (Bowls Contrived in September).

Anyone notice the name of the Italian Job sequel yet? *snicker*

One of the biggest question marks of the 2009 NFL Draft is West Virginia QB Pat White. Despite the obvious parallels to other athletic quarterbacks, it appears that White has created more buzz lately, and has NFL teams scratching their heads regarding his contributions to their programs. The Senior Bowl MVP threw the ball exceptionally well at the Combine, and he was able to run unofficial times of 4.50 and 4.49 in the 40-yard dash. Today is his Pro Day. There are 25 NFL teams there to watch him. He is expected to run routes today. Because his ‘athletic QB’ predecessors have experienced short-lived careers as QBs, a move to WR might be his best bet. He may be the reason for the evolution of the Wildcat…or more aptly named the ‘Two-Headed Monster’.

That Just Happened — Lebron Goes NFL, Pilot Goes AWOL

    January 13th, 2009 - 2 Comments » - Filled in: New News

Lebron sure has caused a stink with all that speculation about joining the Brooklyn Nets in 2010. Maybe we’re all mistaken. Did you ever think Lebron might be jumping sports? How dare we! Thanks to lebron2010.com, we have new fodder for speculation. Lebron to the NFL!

Lebron to Le Browns in 2010?
Lebron to Le Browns in 2010?

Myron Rolle is living a charmed life. He’s brilliant, he’s athletically gifted and he’s calling the shots…as he should. He decided to forego the 2009 NFL Draft and head to Oxford to pursue his Rhodes Scholarship. He will earn a one-year Master’s Degree in Medical Anthropology. Jolly good, Myron! See you on Sundays in ‘10!

    Marcus Schrenker
    Marcus & Michelle Schrenker——

Memo to Bernie Madoff: Next time you scam millions billions from people — hop in a plane, send a distress message to air traffic controllers and just parachute out. Easy. No word yet on whether or not Marcus Schrenker scammed money from people, but the investment advisor was issued a $535,500 judgement against his company in favor of OM Financial Life Insurance Co. To add to the downward spiral, his wife filed for divorce on December 30 of ‘08 and his step-father recently passed away. Check out the article in the Indy Star.

    The NFL Show: Episode 14

    December 10th, 2007 - No Comments » - Filled in: Sports

    Brady’s Bunch
During the 1st QTR, I was hoping Najeh Davenport’s TD dance would include him dropping a deuce in the end zone. But then we get a flea flicker from Moss back to Brady, then downtown to native-to-San Antonio wide receiver, Jabbar Gaffney. Shut up, Anthony Smith.

While most would think its a waste of time to talk $#!t to a “no name” DB, I was happy to see Brady defend his team by getting in the face of and having a chat with Steelers DB, Anthony Smith. Even after Brady was approached by a second Steeler player, he didn’t stop. The only problem I had with Brady was that he came out for the post-game press conference all primped and made up sporting a Gissele-insipred GQ coat. Collar popped. Well…his team IS undefeated. I suppose he can wear whatever he wants as long as he shuts the ‘72 Dolphins up.

    Jason and the Cowboys
Screw the Golden Fleece, Jason Witten and his band of Cowboys have their sights set on the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Witten caught a 16-yard touchdown pass to edge the Detroit Lions, 28-27. Good thing…he coughed up the ball on the 1 yard line earlier in the 4th QTR. Speaking of beating the Patriots, is there anyone else that thinks the Cowboys are playing sloppy football…and still winning? Not to overlook the efforts of the Colts, but look out Pats. The Cowboys are a perfect game away from beatin’ that @$$.

    A Different Turf
This ain’t Hillman College. This is the NFL. With 1:22 left in the game, Jamal “Big Jada” Lewis used his Ram Man motion to break like 50 tackles on his way to a 31-yard score to put the nail on the Jets’ coffin. The playoffs are in the Browns’ future. They certainly have the personnel to do it. But with an improved Bills team ahead, they’ll need to step up.

    Falcons Quest
Today, Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months by Federal judge Henry E. Hudson. With good behavior, he could be back on the streets by October 2009. Until then, the Falcons still have to sell tickets and win football games. So far, the Falcons have tried to replace Vick with Joey “Haha” Harrington and Byron “Keenan” Leftwich with no avail (I think we could have predicted that outcome). So what now? Coach Petrino calls on a former pupil — 30-year-old insurance salesman Chris Redman. His resume includes more than just sales experience. While at the University of Louisville…under Coach Petrino…he finished as the NCAA Division I-A career leader in passing completions (1,031) and attempts (1,679). His 12,541 career passing yards ranked third behind BYU’s Ty Detmer (15,031 yards) and Louisiana Tech’s Tim Rattay (12,746). Redman threw 84 touchdown passes and 51 interceptions and still holds virtually every single game, single season, and career passing record at the University of Louisville (Wikipedia.org). Monday night, Redman turned in a respectable performance going 23-for-40 and 298 yards…2 TDs and 1 pick. Um. Leave him in there. That’s better than Harrington and Leftwich combined this season (not really).

    That’s So Ravens
Speaking of quarterback quandaries, Kyle Boller is something like 20-21 as a starter. Stick a fork in Steve McNair. Why not give Troy Smith a try? He’s not short on talent. What do they have to lose?

NFL Week 3 Recap — Power Rangers and Some Texans

    September 24th, 2007 - 8 Comments » - Filled in: Sports

It’s about 11:50am. Just downed a triple stack of cakes at Champps Americana sitting in front of a cluster of big screens armed with the DIRECTV NFL Sunday Ticket. As my eyes peruse the various pregame shows, I do a double take…and almost regurgitate my pancakes. Philly and Detroit. For a second, I thought maybe the A/V guy landed on an episode of the Power Rangers. Needless to say I was confused by the unis. It quickly became evident that the Eagles were celebrating 75 years, but baby blue and yellow? These were replicas of the original blue and yellow unis from the team’s 1933 inaugural season. It’s probably best that they decided to go with the current color scheme in a harsh environment like Philly.

    Philadelphia Eagles throwback jersey

The Eagles wasted no time preserving every ounce of dignity they had left. Donovan’s comments on HBO must have motivated his team. Brian Westbrook sliced through the Lions front line like a hot knife for 110 yards and 2 scores and added another 111 from Donovan for another score. The Lions defense underestimated Kevin Curtis, or he was just a beneficiary of a broken defense. Curtis pulled in 11 receptions…3 of those to the house…for 221 yards. And none of those came as a result of the Deion Sanders “double move” theory. I’m also proud to say that Curtis is 1 of 4 guys I labelled as an NFL sleeper this year. I should have thrown Wes Welker in there while I had the chance.

    Cowboys or Texans?
While their efforts were fruitless, the Texans put on a show for their fans against the mighty defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts. Without star wide receiver, Andre Johnson, and an early exit by Ahman Green, Matt Schaub and the Houston Texans nearly upset the Colts Sunday. Despite being sacked 3 times, Schaub shook what his mama gave him and orchestrated a last-minute comeback to move within 6 points of the Colts. If that’s not impressive, I’m not sure what else would help the Texans earn the respect they’ve earned so far.

The Cowboys battled it out with the Chicago Bears. Marion Barber III went toe-to-toe with the entire Bears defense. In the first half, Tony Romo looked frustrated. He must have downed a Diet Pepsi Max or two at halft-awwww (that’s a yawn…and it’s funnier if you’ve seen the commercial). Despite the early struggles, Tony Romo proceeded to sling ice ropes to 7 different Cowboys receivers.

It’s hard to give the Cowboys defense the same credit as that of the Texans. And the Texans don’t have as many offensive weapons as the Cowboys. So, who’s the better team?

    Wrecks Gross Man
Naturally, I watched the Cowboys/Bears postgame on the NFL Network. “I have to take care of the football…do what I do best.” No, no, Rex. You did. Three picks with one to the house? That is what you do best.
