    Score Mobile for BlackBerry

Looking for a great smartphone application to provide live box scores and stats (perfect for fantasy football)? Look no further. TheScore.com offers such an app for free. The app is available for most BlackBerry smartphones including the Tour, and, of course, it is available for download on the iPhone.

As a sports fan, this should definitely be included on my list of must have BlackBerry apps. I also use it to stay current on college football scores.

To download this app to your smartphone, visit thescore.com from your phone’s browser. It is also available on BlackBerry App World.

UPDATE — March 11, 2010: Score Mobile has been updated to v1.3.2.6.

    Coveroo Your Mobile Device

    Coveroo laser engraving

While hunting for swag at the Society for Information Display (SID) in San Antonio, I ran across the Coveroo booth where they were basically ripping cell phones from attendees’ hands and etching personalized designs onto them. Well, sort of.

“You want to do what to my BlackBerry?”

The San Francisco-based company is only several months old, and it has already redefined the personalized cell phone cover scene. No need to weigh your phone down with a bulky cover complete with scratch-off designs. Let Coveroo take a laser to your device. They can also finish it off in color with its new HighColor printing process. The color option will first be exclusively available for the new Marvel and NBA designs, along with the existing UCLA, Garfield, Hot Wheels, Star Trek, Streetfighter IV, and Resident Evil 5 artwork. Prices range from $9.95 to $59.95, depending upon your phone model and design choice.

About a month ago, Coveroo added superheroes and NBA designs to its lineup. So, I opted to show my undying dedication to the San Antonio Spurs. They even swapped my BlackBerry Bold cover for a titanium-colored cover.

FYI…for most iPod models, users can opt to buy a completely new device to get the custom artwork…OR Coveroo offers a send-in option for the iPod and iPhone, as well as for laptops, the Nindendo DSi, and other miscellaneous phones and PDAs.

So go quietly, my friends. Visit the Coveroo website for a lineup of devices and designs, and get etched!

    Congratulations, Manu!

    April 21st, 2008 - 5 Comments » - Filled in: Sports

Congrats to San Antonio Spurs guard, Manu Ginobili, for being named the NBA’s best sixth man for 2007-08 season.

Ginobili received 615 out of a possible 620 points, including 123 of a possible 124 first-place votes, from a panel of 124 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Leandro Barbosa of the Phoenix Suns finished second with 283 points and Jason Terry of the Dallas Mavericks finished third with 44 points.

In order to be eligible for this award, players had to have come off the bench in more games than they started. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third-place vote.

What I want to know is who’s the clown that didn’t vote for Manu. Seriously? I mean…I don’t want to take anything away from Leandro Barbosa. The guy is definitely lights out. But Manu clearly had the strongest argument. His efforts are clearly missed on the court when he’s injured. And he led all Spurs scorers with a career-high 19.5 points per game.

So, I went searching through pages and pages on the Internet to see if I could find the culprit. All I could find is this page published on April 15, 2008 on ESPN.com of NBA award picks. ESPNmag writer, Chris Palmer, chose Leandro Barbosa. I thought graduating from Howard University implied intelligence. C’mon, CP. (Ok, I admit…I’m biased. But I think my contention is valid…right?) I definitely figured CP would pick Manu for his Xtreme Sports-like play on the court (Chris also covers extreme sports for ESPN).

    Anyway congrats again, Manu!

Yao Ming Out For The Season

    February 26th, 2008 - No Comments » - Filled in: Sports
Yao Ming Calls An Entended Time Out
You can’t call time out mid season, Yao!

According the the Houston Chronicle, Yao Ming will be out for the rest of the foreseeable season with a stress fracture in his left foot. Looks like Tracy “Right Eye” McGrady will get the weight of the Rockets on his shoulders once again. Nothing against T-Mac, but I’d say you can scratch Houston off of your post-season schedule.

The Rockets (36-20) have won 12 consecutive games since losing the one game Yao has missed this season. Yao averaged 22 points and 10.8 rebounds this season.

Yao is scheduled to hold a 6:15 p.m. press conference today to discuss the injury. Everytime I think of Yao Ming doing an interview, I immedaitely think of Ivan Drago. I wonder if Bridgette Nielsen is going to speak on his behalf.
