Practice! Playoffs?!?

December 31st, 2007 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: Videos

This video was posted on YouTube about a year ago. I’m an NFL Network junkie. For awhile Jim Mora was co-hosting one of the network’s shows. Each time he went off on a rant, I couldn’t help but mutter my best imitation of his “Playoffs?” video. This video combines Jim Mora’s video with Allen Iverson’s “Practice” video. Nicely done.

Canon Powershot SD1000 Digital Camera

December 24th, 2007 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: Gadgets & Technology, Reviews

According to comScore, online spending was up considerably this year…19% over 2006 sales. While I didn’t partake in any online shopping or fall victim to the long lines around Best Buy and Circuit City, I was definitely front & center for the action on “Black Friday” night.

I’ve been in the market for a number of things this year. But because I curbed my spending after opening RETOX, my hands were tied…credit cards locked away. After reading an article my friend, Danielle, wrote about how Canon is the unofficial bloggers choice for cameras, I couldn’t help but conform to the masses. Circuit City was running a Black Friday special on the Canon PowerShot SD1000. I read a few reviews, a majority of which were extremely positive, and giggled at those written by the overly critical camera geeks. At $149.99, they had me at “Hello”.

Since I’ve relied heavily on my mobile phone camera for snapshots, I’ve missed the convenience and quality of a digi. Since I purhcased the SD1000, I’ve used it frequently. The picture quality is great — relatively speaking, of course (you get what you pay for). Camera geeks can still appreciate this camera despite its lack of manual controls. And although it weighs 4.4 ounces, you definitely notice the weighty high build quality. Best of all, it’s small. It’s portability makes it perfect for capturing those “Kodak moments” like this one, which was taken with my BlackBerry camera.

Here’s a shot from my SD1000 of RETOX. I used this photo in a recent ad.

I’ve only experimented with the video feature once, and after uploading it to my laptop, I was satisfied…impressed actually. I’m convinced that this is one of the best — if not THE best — bang for the buck digis. Now all I need is a Canon PIXMA MX700 or any photo printer for that matter.

Christmas Lights: Just Add Music

December 21st, 2007 - 2 Comments » - Filled in: Videos

Richard Holdman of Pleasant Grove, Utah is nuts. Kidding, Richard. When my friend, Eddie, decided to buy 20,000 Christmas Lights in an effort to spin his electricity meter as fast as possible, I thought he was nuts. Despite living in a gated community, The Holdman Family light show has caused traffic problems in his neighborhood. You’ll see why in the video below. Thank goodness you didn’t use that damn Trans Siberian Orchestra song, although I bet it would put the previously popular Christmas Lights video to shame.

You can see all of the Holdman Family videos by clicking here.

Ruin Romo…Just In Time For The Playoffs

December 21st, 2007 - 2 Comments » - Filled in: Sports

I’ve got two words for you: BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION! I love how the media strikes when least expected…and when completely unnecessary. The Cowboys lose, Tony Romo has a bad performance…let’s blame it on JS. Um. Guys. JS was at the Packers game too. Then you got Terrell Owens, who’s been relatively quiet and well-behaved this season, throwin’ out “jokes” about keeping JS out of the stadium for games. Poor Romo.

Ruin Romo

Whether or not you feel my sentiment, you may get a kick out of the latest website to take advantage of a celebrity when they’re down. Ruin Romo not only urges fans to sport a Jessica Simpson mask during these final Cowboys games, but the site is also riding the momentum by offering up official “Ruin Romo” gear (pictured right).

Don’t worry, Tony. At least it wasn’t something made of rubber…like this Michael Vick chew toy. And for the record, Stephanie Simpson is the real distraction.

Alycia Lane: Cop Puncher, Bikini Wearer

December 17th, 2007 - No Comments » - Filled in: Random/Rants
Alycia Lane is an attention whore
Look at me! Look at me!

When I woke up this morning to catch my daily round of NFL Total Access and CNBC Squawk Box, I expected nothing more than Rich Eisen’s deft breakdown of this weekend’s NFL games, Deion Sanders’ Top 10 “Primetime” Plays, and a report on the volatility of LIBOR. But sleeping through my alarm has its disadvantages. I woke up to the words “Rich Eisen” and “photos in a bikini”. Talk about nightmarish.

The report was referring to hottie news anchor, Alycia Lane, who was arrested in New York after allegedly punching a female police officer in da face. That’s how they roll in Philly, which is where Her Arrogance hails from. Back in May, Ms. Lane emailed pictures of herself wearing a bikini to NFL Network anchor, Rich Eisen. However, Mr. Fantasy didn’t get the pics. His wife did. DOH! Oh well. It’s only a matter of time now before those bikini photos get out. May the hunt begin.

The Art of Competitve Wheelbarrow Racing

December 13th, 2007 - No Comments » - Filled in: Videos

It’s special moves like this in wheelbarrow racing that call for congressional action…like a worthless 400-page study that cost millions of dollars and about 2 years of valuable time just to tell us something we already knew: wheelbarrow racers are juicing.

The NFL Show: Episode 14

Brady’s Bunch
During the 1st QTR, I was hoping Najeh Davenport’s TD dance would include him dropping a deuce in the end zone. But then we get a flea flicker from Moss back to Brady, then downtown to native-to-San Antonio wide receiver, Jabbar Gaffney. Shut up, Anthony Smith.

While most would think its a waste of time to talk $#!t to a “no name” DB, I was happy to see Brady defend his team by getting in the face of and having a chat with Steelers DB, Anthony Smith. Even after Brady was approached by a second Steeler player, he didn’t stop. The only problem I had with Brady was that he came out for the post-game press conference all primped and made up sporting a Gissele-insipred GQ coat. Collar popped. Well…his team IS undefeated. I suppose he can wear whatever he wants as long as he shuts the ‘72 Dolphins up.

Jason and the Cowboys
Screw the Golden Fleece, Jason Witten and his band of Cowboys have their sights set on the Vince Lombardi Trophy. Witten caught a 16-yard touchdown pass to edge the Detroit Lions, 28-27. Good thing…he coughed up the ball on the 1 yard line earlier in the 4th QTR. Speaking of beating the Patriots, is there anyone else that thinks the Cowboys are playing sloppy football…and still winning? Not to overlook the efforts of the Colts, but look out Pats. The Cowboys are a perfect game away from beatin’ that @$$.

A Different Turf
This ain’t Hillman College. This is the NFL. With 1:22 left in the game, Jamal “Big Jada” Lewis used his Ram Man motion to break like 50 tackles on his way to a 31-yard score to put the nail on the Jets’ coffin. The playoffs are in the Browns’ future. They certainly have the personnel to do it. But with an improved Bills team ahead, they’ll need to step up.

Falcons Quest
Today, Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months by Federal judge Henry E. Hudson. With good behavior, he could be back on the streets by October 2009. Until then, the Falcons still have to sell tickets and win football games. So far, the Falcons have tried to replace Vick with Joey “Haha” Harrington and Byron “Keenan” Leftwich with no avail (I think we could have predicted that outcome). So what now? Coach Petrino calls on a former pupil — 30-year-old insurance salesman Chris Redman. His resume includes more than just sales experience. While at the University of Louisville…under Coach Petrino…he finished as the NCAA Division I-A career leader in passing completions (1,031) and attempts (1,679). His 12,541 career passing yards ranked third behind BYU’s Ty Detmer (15,031 yards) and Louisiana Tech’s Tim Rattay (12,746). Redman threw 84 touchdown passes and 51 interceptions and still holds virtually every single game, single season, and career passing record at the University of Louisville (Wikipedia.org). Monday night, Redman turned in a respectable performance going 23-for-40 and 298 yards…2 TDs and 1 pick. Um. Leave him in there. That’s better than Harrington and Leftwich combined this season (not really).

That’s So Ravens
Speaking of quarterback quandaries, Kyle Boller is something like 20-21 as a starter. Stick a fork in Steve McNair. Why not give Troy Smith a try? He’s not short on talent. What do they have to lose?
