Chitwood, Chestnut…same difference.
|
In another exciting iteration of Nathan’s Famous hot dog-eating competition at Coney Island, Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi-san headed neck-and-neck into the final minute of the contest. Kobayashi was first to beat the previous Nathan’s Famous record of 53¾ hot dogs. But in the end, Joey Chestnut pulled ahead of the Alpha Fat Ass by downing a new world record 66 dogs. Chestnut set the previous world record only a month ago on June 2, 2007 with 59½ hot dogs.

I am just curious how come their middle section is still flat?
I will gain 5 pounds if I eat like that.

Some people are just blessed with good genes. If you exercise long and hard enough, you can eat anything and not gain any weight. Kobayashi actually has ripped abs and he’s a eating monster.

I was out for lunch at a local pizza place and saw the first half of the event. Lucky for me I missed the puke bit.

Yeah. I wasn’t pretty. The scoreboard said 66-66, then they pointed out that Kobayashi still had his hand at his mouth, so they gave him partial credit knocking it down to 66-65. Then, he blew it.

Apparently the live turnout to watch this showdown was 30,000 people. Crazy!

Ever since Kobayashi set the bar higher about 6 years ago, I’ve had an unhealthy obsession with this event.
@ Leo: that’s what I heard. I seriously think the fact that Joey Chestnut finally gave Kobayashi a run for his money last year created high anticipation for this one. Imagine what next year’s event will bring.
