Kicked To The Curb By Technorati

    June 27th, 2007 - 17 Comments » - Filled in: Blogging

A few days ago, I noticed in my WordPress Dashboard that my “Incoming Links” section was not updating. Come to find out that it was 2 days and 3 posts after my post about the ViralTags Train.

My goal in participating was to quickly earn some extra backlinks with every intention of improving my Technorati ranking…as close to the Technorati Top 100 as possible with a long road ahead. I hesitated at first because I thought — and warned by some — that the train would damage my Google PageRank. I’m still uncertain of those results. But one thing that did happen: my Technorati rank has gone from slowly inching down from above 30,000 down to 19,080 in 6 days. Coincidence that my rank and authority stats have been haulted? I’m beginning to think it’s April Fools all over again.

    It’s A Ping Thing
This was the first thing I checked in my WordPress update services. My Technorati ping is in place: http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping. And immediately before typing this post (about 10:00pm CST Tuesday night), I pinged Technorati through their website.

John Chow has been having issues with Technorati again. I’m nowhere near as evil as that man, and I’m getting kicked to the curb. At least that’s what it feels like. I will argue in my defense that better than a third of the additional links I’ve received since publishing the ViralTags Train are legitimate references to my content.

I’d be interested to hear if any other ViralTags or ViralLinks participants are having similar issues. If you have similar experiences with Technorati, or if you’ve been kicked to the curb before, my ears are open for words of advice.

In the meantime, won’t you please add Derrich.com to your Technorati Favorites? I’d be happy to return the favor. Thanks for reading.

Check out this video. It’s a great parody of the Microsoft Surface. “The future is here…and it’s not an iPhone. It’s a big-ass table.”

NBA Champion San Antonio Spurs Celebration Video

    June 23rd, 2007 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: San Antonio, Sports, Videos

Well. The NBA season is over…many NBA “fans” are thankful. I’m just glad the Spurs won. I won’t have to hear anymore about how the Spurs are boring (they’re not) and whether or not to refer to the Spurs as a dynasty (they are). I can just sit back, relax, and wait to do this again next year. Congrats, Tony! (you know) And congrats to the San Antonio Spurs.

My brother, Jason, made this video from a collection of photos he took after Game 4 in downtown San Antonio. I was there as well, but we never managed to find each other due to poor logistics. The second video is of the official Spurs celebration downtown last Sunday (Father’s Day). Now that the season is over, I can concentrate on Fantasy Football. :P

    Save Space & Get Organized!

    June 22nd, 2007 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: Reviews

Spring may be over, but it’s definitely not too late for spring cleaning. ShopGetOrganized.com has just about everything you can imagine to unclutter your clutter. They have everything from shoe racks to non-stick oven liners to document and magazine boxes.

Electronic charging station has 3 top ports with chargers for cell phones, mp3 players, PDAs and more.

One of the first things I noticed was the huge selection of “As Seen On TV” items, some of which I’ve never seen before. Speaking of TVs, they also have remote control organizers and plasma TV cleaner.

    Friday’s Finds — 06/22/2007

    June 22nd, 2007 - 12 Comments » - Filled in: Friday's Finds

As we near the end of the month, I usually take a closer look at how I can improve upon blog monetization and how to increase traffic. As my AdSense revenues have gone down, I’ve adopted a couple of additional sources that have worked fairly well. Here are some posts from around the blogosphere that I think you’ll enjoy that discuss these very issues.

    • Randy, otherwise known as the Grown Up Geek, points out that many bloggers are experiencing a downturn in AdSense earnings. While most were chalking it up to a “summer slump”, Randy discusses what is causing AdSense earnings to fall.
    • Paula Mooney has published an updated list of blogger salaries, and *this guy* is on the list…um…#86 out of 120 bloggers. But I did make the cover (thanks, Paula). The Top 5 is led by 2 domainers rounded off by Markus Frind at Plenty of Fish, Michael Arrington of TechCrunch, and Matt Drudge behind the Drudge Report.
    • Curious to know how much your blog could make from Google AdSense? Paul Wilson at MyMarketer.net posted about the AdSenseMeter. That’s right. If you don’t currently run AdSense, now you could get a rough estimate of how AdSense revenue your blog might generate. Of course it’s a little inaccurate since it is limited to a defined CPM for your blog, not to mention it uses Alexa to determine your traffic count. But it is a cool tool that I wish was accurate. At a $2 CPM, my blog should make $695 in July.
    • I’ve received alot of traffic from StumbleUpon lately after inserting a bookmarking plugin, which puts icons at the bottom of each post. Terence Chang at the Blah Blah Blog shows us how to Stumble a page without StumbleUpon toolbar…and how to tell if a page has been stumbled.
    • Contests are always good for increased traffic. Kenric at Live Learn Invest is having a contest to win an iPod Shuffle. The contest is sponsored by Printed Circuit Boards.

That does it for this week. Enjoy your weekend!
