MyBlogLog Community Love

April 25th, 2007 - 5 Comments » - Filled in: Blogging

Thanks to Kelly Cho and The Everyday Weekender, I was included in this edition of the link love train. However, instead of the “Technorati Express”, we’re riding the “MyBlogLog Dispatch” to create awareness of each other’s blogs.

MyBlogLog Community is definitely important to me. I interact with several of my MBL community members daily…and quite frankly may not have ever found their blogs if I hadn’t browsed MBL on occasion. Please take some time to visit each of the communities below and consider joining.

Here are the rules:

1) Write a short introduction about how you found this list and include a link back to that blog.

2) COPY the rules and ENTIRE list below and post it on your blog.

3) Take “My New Community Members” and move them into the “The Original Community Members” list.

4) Find 3 new blogs, join their MyBlogLog Community and add them to the “My New Community Members” section. Remember to also add the “Join the Community” link next to your new blogs. ( Example: http://www.mybloglog.com/buzz/community/shawnknight/ )

5) Join as a member to each Community listed here by clicking on “Join the Community”. The goal is that all of the new Members listed will join your community, and you should do the same!

The Office — Jim Imitates Dwight

April 25th, 2007 - 8 Comments » - Filled in: Videos

I stumbled across this video last night during the rainstorm, and thought I’d share it with you guys…particularly fans of The Office. With 11 bucks, Jim throws together a Dwight outfit. The imitation is just icing on the cake.

I Really Hate Rain

April 24th, 2007 - 5 Comments » - Filled in: Random/Rants

It gets my clean car dirty, my shoes get ruined (yeah, I’m just kidding), and I feel like sleeping all day. This time, I’ll feel like sleeping all day since I’ll be awake all night. It’s 11:40pm CST right now, and this is what’s coming right for us. A thunderstorm with hail and multiple tornadoes…according to the National Weather Service. You should see the rainbow of fruit flavors outside the radar circle. *sigh* Good night.

eMoms at Home 1st Birthday Contest

April 24th, 2007 - 4 Comments » - Filled in: Blogging

To celebrate her upcoming blogthday (is that a word?), April 29th, Wendy Piersall has arranged a month-long contest in which she has given away a variety of prizes. I happened to score a copy of Uncommon AdSense by Eric Giguere in Week 3. It’s not too late to participate. And it’s easy. Check out the grand prizes:

  • A FREE Premium subscription EarnersForum donated by Lee Dodd
  • The book Meet and Grow Rich by Joe Vitale and Bill Hibbler
  • A $500 Coupon off of an Elite Retreat ticket (Orlando in June, anyone?)
  • The *Grand Prize* is a FREE phone consultation with Jeremy “ShoeMoney” Shoemaker and myself to talk specifically about how to grow your blog or business

Now if those aren’t worth the effort of entering the eMoms at Home Birthday Party Contest, I don’t know what is.

Speaking of Contests
Don’t forget to help support Derrich.com by placing your vote for me in the Blogger’s Choice Awards for Hottest Daddy Blogger. I’m about 300 votes shy of winning. :P

WordPress Plugin — Random Redirect

April 24th, 2007 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: Blogging

Matthew Mullenweg and I have three things in common: [1] we’re both from Texas, [2] our blogs are both powered by WordPress, and [2] I’m the most important Derrich in the world as he is the most important Matt in the world. Not bad. One thing I can’t say — Matt is the founding developer of WordPress. Talk about oneupmanship. Thanks, Matt.

Matt’s recent accomplishment is the Random Redirect WordPress plugin. Michael Arrington of TechCrunch found a button on StumbleUpon, an idea by Rafe Needleman, and asked Matt about a plugin on WordPress that could serve the same purpose. So, Matt responded by writing one. Download this plugin, activate it, and add “/?random” to the end of your domain (i.e. http://www.yourdomain.com/?random). That’s it. Give it a try on my blog. I’ve added it on a full-time basis at the bottom of each post.

Now, if I can just get Matt to write a plugin that replaces my sticky “message” at the top.

iPod Toilet Paper Holder

April 23rd, 2007 - 4 Comments » - Filled in: Business/Consumer

I think I could really get some use out of a product like this. In addition to the plethora of magazines and my cell phone, of course, I couldn’t think of a more necessary item to have while performing #2 than this iPod toilet paper holder by iCarta. It’s not as cool as iBlinds, but a close 2nd. It is compatible with pretty much every iPod (as long as it has the USB dock connectors). The list of features includes:

  • 4 Integrated high performance moisture-free speakers deliver exceptional
    clarity and high quality sound
  • Charges your iPod while playing music
  • Audio selector allows you to play iPod shuffle or other Audio device
  • Integrated Bath tissue holder that can be easily folded as a stereo dock
  • Requires AC Power (AC Adapter included)
  • Easy to remove from Wall Mount

And I just had to check and see if Gizmodo.com already did a review of this bad boy. Sure enough…they got their hands on one and tested it thoroughly. I’m jealous.

Top 5 Reasons The San Antonio Spurs Are Ready For The NBA Playoffs

April 21st, 2007 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: San Antonio, Sports, Videos

#5: Some of the local commercials the Spurs do are pretty lame. They are seen primarily peddling cars, however they also do a little grocery shopping from time to time. Reason #5 — The Spurs will be well fed.

#4: Aside from being engaged to one of TV’s hottest ladies, Tony Parker has a budding rap career. As not good as this song is, I have to give it up for Tony Parker (aka. Tony Pizzle, The Machine). He’s just as quick lyrically as he on the basketball court. Ok look, Tony. It’s not THAT bad. And if it’s any consolation, I’d much prefer hearing this during the team intros than “Y’all Ready For This” anyday. Here it is — Tony Parker featuring Fabolous and Booba…and Tim Duncan, Brent Barry, Robert Horry, and Nazr Muhammed. Reason #4 — We got locker room music.

#3: Brent Barry won the Slam Dunk contest in 1996 here in San Antonio beating out fellow Spurs teammate, Michael Finley, with a free throw line jam. Now, he quiets opponents with his consistent 3-point shooting. Reason #3 — 3-point shooters, pick your poison.

#2: James White. Two-handed dunk from the free throw line. Nearly landed a through the legs dunk (but has succeeded off the camera)…also from the charity stripe. That is all. Reason #2 — Our bench players are better then yours.

#1: Joey Crawford’s back-to-back technical foul calls just add fuel to the fire of our big man, Tim Duncan…and thus to the rest of the Spurs team. Thank you, Joey Crawford. Reason #1 — The Spurs are “boring”. Whatever.
