Is your 2007 NCAA Bracket ready? So soon after the picks have been made, you ask? Well, aside from Fantasy Football, I can’t think of another sporting event that attracts so much attention…and business. Ok, well maybe the preseason college football rankings. But you get the idea. I haven’t touched my bracket yet, but I have to have mine in by Wednesday at 5:00pm CST. And for the rest of the month, my lunch hour has been reserved for meals at Buffalo Wild Wings.
This bracket phenomenon has spread to any number of subjects. How about last year’s NFL’s Sexiest Man bracket by FOXSports.net? Or how about Maxim Magazine’s Hometown Hotties bracket? The list goes on. Richard Sandomir, the award-winning sports television columnist for the New York Times, has written a book titled The Enlightened Bracketologist: The Final Four of Everything with co-authors Mark Reiter and Nigel Holmes. In the book, Sandomir talks about the simple thought of brackets creating debatable subject matter based on the mere comparison of a subjective group of choices that are close in quality. In the book, he compares fruits, American beer, the most reliable economic indicator, best video game, meaningless sports statistics…the list goes on.
2007 Bloggers Bracket
Well, in the spirit of bracketology, I’ve decided to create my own bracket. I’m pitting blogs against one another. I basically chose the blogs at random — blogs I read rather regularly — and seeded them based on their Alexa ranking as of today. They include [1] ShoeMoney.com, [2] StevePavlina.com, [3] JohnChow.com, [4] NetBusinessBlog.com, [5] KingNomar.com, [6] HMTK.com, [7] CareerRamblings.com, [8] propstm.net.
RULES:
So…easy enough. Let’s see how this works…or if it works.
Good luck to all of the participants (whether or not you want to).

Why did you put me up against John Chow? Is that a vote of confidence or do you just want me out in the first round?

[…] A regular reader of NBB, derrich, has just posted his bloggers bracket for 2007 where he pits blogger against blogger much like Daniel’s Blogger Face-Off series. […]

Derrich, sorry bout that. I was so shocked to see myself included let alone seeded against Shoemoney that I made my post for the wrong blog! I deleted the post and moved it to the right blog, but i guess that trackbacks are quicker than me!

I’m curious as to the reasoning of the seeds: shouldn’t similarly ranked blogs be pitted against each other?
March 13th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Actually, you want the best “teams” (or blogs in this case) to play each other at the end. If they eliminate one another in the first round, the excitement kinda fizzles away. This is how just about every sport with a bracket system seed the teams. #1 vs #8, #2 vs #7…and so on.
March 13th, 2007 at 8:52 pm
I do understand that point but doesn’t that mean the lower ranked blogs will be automatically beaten?
March 14th, 2007 at 8:25 am
My votes are as follows:
1. Shoemoney
2. Kingnomar
3. HMTK (nothing against John, just gotta root for the underdog!)
4. Careerramblings
Great idea. I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

[…] The response I received as a result of the original 2007 Bloggers Tournament was fantastic…and I don’t say “fantastic” alot…really. Besides, the NCAA Basketball Tournament is far from over. […]
