February Brought More Than Just AdSense Revenue

March 1st, 2007 - - Filled in: Blogging

While browsing through my February AdSense revenues at about the 15th of the month. I became discouraged. I was operating on far fewer impressions meaning very little AdSense revenue. But I didn’t let that hinder my desire to keep going…as many old-school bloggers out there would suggest — this is part of the process. Considering it was a slow month, I explored several changes I’ve been planning.

Revenue for February 2007
AdSense revenue for the month of February was $73.21 on just over 23,000 impressions, which is about a third of what January brought. So, considering I made $88.90 in January on a third of the traffic, I should be happy. The main difference traffic-wise came with a couple of popular videos that were posted on numerous forums in January. I only had one of those videos in February…posted 5 days ago. Two days ago, I also added an AdSense Links square to my sidebar. It has yet to bring any hits.

I also had revenue from my Linkshare.com ads totalling $10.90 off of 2 sales. And 1 sale on Amazon.com yesterday brought in $11.16.

Total revenue for February 2007: $95.27
Technorati ranking (as of 02/28/2007): 114,583

Finally Some Love From Google
I’ve worked hard on the SEO aspect of my posts while preserving the quality of my content, of course. My inbound anchors have improved somewhat, but my outbound anchors are tons better as reflected by the recent increase in Google traffic. Here are two examples of posts I made that brought me some nice traffic from Google:

And this morning on MyBlogLog stats, my article about the CompUSA closings received some Google traffic…even from searched for “CompUSA”. Well, only 2. Those came from Google Blog Search. Here’s my Google Analytics chart showing a spike in Google referrals:

Derrich.com February Traffic

Before this, Google never showed up on my referrals chart. In fact, it was usually less than 1% (with the exception of the week I received hits for the Superbowl Commercials).

See how some other blogs in the blogsphere made out…regardless of income source:
Connected Internet - The Latest Tech, Mobile and Gaming News$3,907.67
leftblank - More Than You’d Expect$456.10
John Chow - Miscellaneous Ramblings of a Dot Com Mogul$7,011.05

Thanks for writing about your earnings!

Perhaps you could add some Adsense beneath your posts and on the sidebar.. not sure if that’ll be overload, but it might help you increase your earnings :)

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. You should definitely start now, Gregg. A little is better than none at all. Right? And, Maki…good suggestions. I’ve been thinking about adding some below my posts in place of affiliate banners (still thinking about it). And I also added some AdWords Links to my sidebar, but that didn’t pan out so well. It just saturated the blog with the same ads.

Well, do not worry much about the earnings yet. Everyone builds their way up from scratch. Think about it this way.

More traffic = More people visiting your site! I guess the issue here is to convert this traffic to cash. Ah.. This is one area you have to experiment on.

woow, this is now a blog spread fashion, everyone is saying how much is the blog month revenue. Should all of the bloggers that have money sources on their blogs, do this?

I agree totally on lyndonmaxewell. Focus on content, good content, link building, make friends and be happy. The money will follow that. Johnchow.com for instance, is not a good example, the juice of his content is almost NULL, 6 or 12 good posts that you learn something, but the other 95% is garbadge, comercial talk. I know i’ll receive to many no-no’s for saying this, but it’s the truth. Read the blog carefully, for god safe, it’s a personal blog!!

Indeed, Jonix. Everybody’s doing it. :) Although I have considered eliminating this from my usual posts. While it might be helpful on a blogger’s blog, mine is just a blog about…well, about stuff.

And, Roland…I certainly respect your opinion. If John’s blog did one thing without question, it was that it motivated me to start my own blog. So, regardless of what opinions are made about John Chow dot com (I’ve heard both sides), the Evil Canadian has a special spot in my blogsphere.

In my experience, organic traffic converts almost twice as as often as referral traffic.
If you want to make a decent income with adsense, google traffic is the most important.
Keep it up and it’ll keep on coming :)
