In a cop out move for today’s entry (and possibly for all of this weekend’s entries since I’ll be travelling for various Super Bowl festivities), I decided to let someone else do the work for me. They just don’t know it yet.
When you get a chance, visit Matt Coddington’s NetBusinessBlog. His post today features his Top Links for 2/2/2007. His site is about a month old…ish…and he’s already got 329 subscribers to his blog. Impressive. I hate you, Matt.
No I don’t. Ok, maybe a little. NetBusinessBlog features alot of Internet/Technology news, web development, blogging and marketing ideas, and a little humor. If you enjoy it, make sure to subscribe. Have a great weekend, everyone! And GO COLTS!
I really hope Brain Urlacher doesn’t see this. I’m pretty much scared of the guy. I also hope he doesn’t notice that I misspelled his name.

Well 36 posts later, February is here. Time flies much too quickly. In January, I stepped up the video posts. I do it because [1] I live on YouTube, Break.com, and Metacafe.com…just to name a few; I love funny videos, and [2] it drove more traffic to my site. Much more. Toward the middle of the month, I would post a video, and then write a post that would publish the next morning at about 6:00am. When people come to derrich.com, the first thing they see is my informative post. A little scrolling gets my audience a great video. I’ve also discovered that posting a link to my video on a few forums I post on regularly brings a nice amount of traffic. The nice thing about this is that others will take that link and post it on their favorite forum(s). Now while this wouldn’t necessarily work for every blogger, it goes to show that multiple links and content ARE definitely king.
AdSense for January 2007
For January 2007, I made $88.90 using AdSense. As I mentioned in my post about making $100 Using AdSense, the 300×250 ad takes the eCPM cake. I made alot more money with the 468×60 banner, but that’s only because I posted more videos than anything…and there were even some posts that featured both the banner and the 300×250. So for February, I intend to write meatier posts. I may even bring in a new topic. I’ve already got the category on my sidebar: AUTOS. And, I frikken love cars.
The other mystery is figuring out which topics bring the highest eCPM and CTR. Using the Overture keyword tool on Pixelfast.com should help you determine that. It tells you how much advertisers pay for a given keyword or phrase. That, in turn, translates into a higher eCPM for you bloggers.
When you get a chance, read what my good friend, Nomar, had to say about his January performance. If you want ideas and results from “the next level”, read John Chow’s January addition to his series, Making Money From A Blog.
Other Forms of Making Money From Your Blog
The one thing I hate is going to a blog…and it looks like an a big advertisement front. When I began adding banners to the bottom of my posts, I was worried mine might appear that way. But I think I’ve done a good job of placing them on my blog so that they’re not too annoying. In addition, I’ve placed a 125×125 box in the sidebar…one ad in the main page, and one from anther affiliate on the “Single Post” page. Those get alot of click-throughs, but I have yet to see any purchases made. Most of the affiliates don’t show results anywhere from 30-90 days. LinkShare.com is my favorite of the 2 since it features more respectable advertisers and decent payouts.
I’ve also considered using my Amazon Associates account to place product ads at the bottom of posts as an alternative to the LinkShare banners. Check out the Amazon.com Associates Program.
