Dynamite Surfing

Here’s a creative commercial for Quiksilver…filmed in Copenhagen. They should have shown this during Superbowl XLI, but they probably didn’t care to spend $2.3 million.

Regroup and Reload

February 13th, 2007 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: Blogging

Sorry for the dead period. I’ve been extremely busy coordinating my annual car event, which was a great success. Although we had the lowest turnout ever…BY FAR…we managed to come out on top financially. Slightly over break even. I also played host to roughly 300 people (normally 500-700), which wore me down pretty easily. I checked my email last night; I had a little over 340 new emails. And now I’m catching up at work, and making great progress.

There are still a few things I plan to do with the blog. The list includes more auto reviews, more interesting and useful financial advice, add a couple of revenue streams (Commission Junction for sure and maybe something else for my videos), and I plan on changing the colors (particularly the green) so that links are more visible. Not sure which color yet…possibly blue. So, nothing major…but definitely things that should have a noticeable impact on derrich.com.

BlackFridayTour.com
I’ve already begun creating graphics and banners for BlackFridayTour.com. I’ll be sure to post my final selections here so you guys can vote on your favorite “look”. I’ve also already begun creating categories for my vBulletin forum. Accompanying this forum will also be BlackFridayShopper.com, which will include the bulk of the information and feature my affiliate links. Right now, it is parked for free using sedo.com.

If You Had One Chance To Get On The Price Is Right….

…would you bid a dollar, or perhaps run down the aisle all crazy with arms flailing, or kiss Bob Barker on the cheek (women only, of course…well, for the most part). This guy had one goal, and one goal only. Check it out.

Congrats To John Chow!

February 7th, 2007 - 5 Comments » - Filled in: Blogging

Congratulations to John Chow who made it into the Business Section of the Vancouver Times. The article titled Part-time labour of love online brings in some cash talks about how John has managed to turn a couple of hours of work into a money-maker equivalent to that of a full-time job…$3,440.66 in January alone. Not bad considering I only made $88.90.

Preview from Feb 6th edition of the newspaper

John has been an inspiration to many bloggers including myself…if you couldn’t tell by our similar header photos of cars. Reading his blog for a couple of weeks gave me the desire to start my own blog back in October of 2006. I have things to say, too, ya know! :)

John donates his blog revenues to charity, which is very commendable. I try to make money to pay my electric bill each month (I’m just kidding, mom). He uses a variety of advertising methods, blog networks, and review sites with which to build his revenues each month. Those include good ol’ Google AdSense, Text Links Ads, Vibrant IntelliTXT, Feedburner Ads, and ads from his main website, TheTechZone…just to name a few. Some of these require a certain level of traffic before you can qualify, so I’ve been forced to get creative. I have yet to achieve the same success (relatively speaking, of course), but I refuse to give up.

John’s blog includes a wide variety of content including auto reviews, restaurant critiques, some financial wisdom, but above all…advice for making your blog a better blog. A blogger’s blog. Check out his Top Posts page to get an idea of the blog greatness that is JohnChow.com. Now that I think about it, I wonder if this qualifies as a blog review for John’s Review My Blog, Get A Free Linkback deal.

The Next Big Thing
I’m working on a new website that I’ve actually had planned prior to starting derrich.com. I figured derrich.com would give me a little practice…not that I’m new to web design (see countryraptunes.org for the first website I created). But the whole affiliate and advertising thing is certainly new to me. Aside from reading John Chow’s experiences with both his blog and The Tech Zone (TTZ), my good friend Eddie (or, “The Eddie” as he likes to be called) runs a few of his own including one of the largest online communities on the Internet, Webrats, as well as a related music video site. I’ve learned…and continue to learn…from these two.

My new website will be called BlackFridayTour.com. Read this if you aren’t familiar with Black Friday. While there are already a couple of very successful and informative sites dedicated to Black Friday — GottaDeal.com and BFads.net — I thought I could do something similar, but with a twist. The name of the website should help you determine what that might be, but I’ll refrain from including any details until I’ve got more substance on my website. If you remember, I’ve already written some articles on my blog relating to Black Friday:

I hope this will be successful as I envision it to be. I will be sure to keep you posted on its progress.

Try This Trick At The Bar #2

February 7th, 2007 - No Comments » - Filled in: Videos

Last week, I posted the bar trick of the water displacing the whiskey. So you got a little physics lesson at the same time. Well, here’s one that involved geometry. Not as “cool” as the last video, but definitely worth putting in your pocket in case you get thirsty.

AdsBlackList Is Once Again Up & Running

February 6th, 2007 - 2 Comments » - Filled in: Blogging

If you remember about a month ago, I posted about AdsBlackList (ABL) for your Google AdSense Competitive Ad Filter. Well, shortly after I posted that, the functionality of the MFA site generator went down. I received an email today from Emir Pilavdzic at ABL. He notified me that ABL coordinated its efforts with Vision i.T Services to correct the issue and that the Top 30 List generator was up and running.

The site will also provide ABL members with professional click auditing and fraud prevention software with native ABL support. So, if your ads are MFA/LCPC, you will know immediately. Make sure you visit AdsBlackList.com for more information…and to register for membership. Start earning more money from your AdSense ads by eliminating cheapo ads…ohs.

Superbowl XLI Commercials, Take 2

February 4th, 2007 - 3 Comments » - Filled in: Random/Rants

I only have one thing to say: The commercials sucked. Well, just a disappointing turnout. In my humble opinion, the Bud Light commercials were the only ones that made me laugh even a little. In case you want to watch the decent ones, you can find them here.

And after you watch those and end up as disappointed as I am, go here.
