I recently read a few blogs that talked about branding. While I really don’t think I fill a niche, per se, I figured I should come up with something. So, I took a page out my mom’s joke book, 1001 Really Bad Jokes That I Think Are Funny. (You know I think you’re funny, mom…sometimes). I added a tagline: “crude, yet refined”. That reflects my personality pretty well. And if you’re wondering how in the world I came up with those words…well, maybe you should spend more time in an oil field.
Liz, author of Successful-blog.com, tells her readers that a tagline is not a brand. Crap! Well, isn’t it a start? She does offer 3 steps to creating a brand. In a few words, she basically says to allow people to brand your site (with both the good and the bad points), to put others first and proclaim it in your tagline — uh, my tagline happens to be about me, so… — and lastly to live your promise. For example:
Yeah, so…uh…Derrich.com - Crude, Yet Refined. I’ll work on it. Obviously, I’m not the branding maven I need to be. But in my own defense, I am creative. So I’m sure you guys will help me think of something.

No offense D, but it sounds too much like Hooter’s slogan: “Delightfully Tacky, Yet Unrefined.”
I was thinking of something more along the lines of: “Texting Faster than I Drive,” or “You Can’t Spell RICH without Derrich,” or “I Can’t Imagine Why my Parents Changed the Locks,” or “I’m a Banker???” I think that 3rd question mark really sets it off nicely. See you Friday.
