First Spinners, Now Crystal-leens

November 16th, 2006 - No Comments » - Filled in: Auto, Videos

I really don’t know what to say to this other than spinners (aka. Spreewells) are out. Clear wheels are in. Of all the things you could see at SEMA 2006, this had to be on display, or rappers would run out of lyrics.

No really…check it out.

Wally World (Wal-Mart, That Is) Ain’t Messin’ Around

November 15th, 2006 - No Comments » - Filled in: Business/Consumer

Having previously ordered items from Wal-Mart.com, I recently received an email that there was “97 cent Shipping on Hot Holiday Toys at Walmart.com“. This is good news given that [1] I hate the crowds at Wal-Mart (or even Super Target for that matter), and [2] I don’t have to do battle with that persistent mom that will do anything to get her little angel that TMX Elmo. Aside from the super cheap shipping (I’m pretty sure it is not only limited to toys), Wal-Mart has decided to do what it does best…slash prices! Imagine that. In an effort to boost its 4th QTR sales, Wal-Mart wasted no time offering super ridiculous pricing (that’s a good thing) on its toys and electronics as those are obviously the focus for consumers this holiday season. Despite reporting a blowout summer, the Company’s CEO thought sales were “softer than we hoped for”, and he sees “real opportunities in the fourth quarter to build on the momentum of the aggressive pricing strategy…”. Yippie! This should make things easier for me since my son generally plays with things like the good ol’ Erector Set and has adopted my Optimus Prime as his newest plaything. Now I can replace OP with the newer version that includes a drill-bit, specially-made Nikes, and some Oakley sunglasses in place of that dated split windshield (I think). Luckily he’s young enough so that I’m not having to Preorder Nintendo Wii at Walmart.com…or an XBox 360 for that matter (I can’t wait to get the new PS3, though).

I’m anxious to see if the slashed prices on electronics, such as flat-screens, are going to effect the big box stores like Best Buy and Circuit City. If you ever get a chance to hear a representative from either of those companies speak with regard to “competition from Wal-Mart”, they’ll probably say something cliche like “we value service as well as price”. Just a little advice…go to Best Buy the week after Black Friday. Open Box items are all the rage. They’re missing a box…and that’s usually all that is wrong with them. Best of all, they’re discounted pretty nicely. I’m actually looking forward to this since I’m currently in the market for a big screen as well as a new laptop. According to each store’s Black Friday list, both will have great specials this holiday season.

What Do You Mean I Have BlackBerry Thumb, Doc?

November 14th, 2006 - No Comments » - Filled in: Random/Rants

Just when you thought you’ve heard of the most unusually tabbed injuries…enter “BlackBerry Thumb”. The days of injuries named for or resulting from…uh, how can I put this…hard work…are a thing of the past. And if you’ve been under a rock for the past decade, you probably haven’t heard of workplace, or lifestyle, injuries…or you have “Under a Rock Neck” (ok, that was bad). Among the many such maladies…”Turf Toe”, “Tennis Elbow”, “Hot Tub Lung“…BlackBerry Thumb is the newest and latest.

According to an article I read last night on MSNBC.com, the Hyatt hotel chain is offering a “BlackBerry Balm” hand massage as a result of numerous customers requesting that “masseurs to spend more time on their hands and arms”. And this is by no means simply a marketing ploy. Apparently BlackBerry Thumb was recognized by the Amercian Physical Therapy Association earlier this year. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to text my masseur about booking a BlackBerry Balm Massage for this afternoon. You folks be careful out there.

A Musical Prodigy: Amateur By Lasse Gjertsen

November 13th, 2006 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: Music, Videos

When I created a Music Category for my blog, I didn’t anticipate posting nothing but videos…primarily of Weird Al Yankovic-like parodies and some guy that happened to make a really cool video of himself. By editing a bunch of little frames of himself playing the drums and the piano…well, I suppose anyone can become “a musical prodigy”. I’ve also heard Lasse is a pretty good beatboxer …just maybe not as good as Darren Robinson. Silly Norwegian. Bbbbrrrrrr, STICK ‘EM…HA HA HA, STICK ‘EM!!!

A Spoonful Of Sugar Won’t Help This

November 12th, 2006 - 1 Comment » - Filled in: Videos

Curious to see what other people are blogging about, I came across a wicked Office Space trailer remake posted by SeanRox. That led me to do my own GooTube search. I came across what is possibly the most accurate portrayal of the nightmares I had as a child after watching Mary Poppins. I mean seriously…a lady that can fly using an umbrella…and that whole placing the stars in the sky thing…and talking to the wind. Isn’t that considered grounds for a witch-hunt? No offense to MP fans, but I think the late Ms. Travers had some issues with the movie as well. She may certainly so with this trailer.

Thanksgiving Dessert: The Best Apple Pie Is A Tootie Pie

November 11th, 2006 - No Comments » - Filled in: Business/Consumer

Ruby Lorraine “Tootie” Feagan’s pies won baking contest after baking contest all over the Texas Hill Country. Her friends convinced her that she should sell her “Tootie Pies” at the Medina Apple Festival in Medina, Texas. Over time, Tootie has attracted loyal fans from all across the country. Her pie was highlighted in the New York Times in October of 2004.

Now that you and Tootie have been formally introduced, please believe me when I say that this will be one of the best…if not, THE BEST…apple pies you will ever taste. Check out the Tootie Pie Company website, order one of these bad boys for Thanksgiving (do it soon), and get hooked. While John Chow might currently have the largest RSS button, Tootie boasts a Texas-sized apple pie with 3 1/2 pounds of fresh apples and its yummy pastry-like crust. Its worth every penny.
